Things You Should Know About Us

We were founded in 1887 – but independent research tells us we are “the most modern and innovative law firm in New Zealand”.

We have over 400 staff, including 48 partners and more than 220 lawyers, in our Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch offices.

We regularly appear in all New Zealand courts, including the New Zealand Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.

We have access to the key business and policy decision-makers in New Zealand – many of whom have been speakers at Simpson Grierson events, including: Hon John Key MP, Prime Minister of NZ; Hon Bill English – Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, Minister for Infrastructure; Hon Helen Clark - Former Prime Minister of NZ; Dr Allan Bollard – Governor of the Reserve Bank; Hon Dr Michael Cullen MP, Former Minister of Finance and Andrew Ferrier, CEO Fonterra Co-operative Group.

We have excellent international connections. We are New Zealand's only member of Lex Mundi, the world's leading association of independent law firms. We are a co-founder of the Pacific Rim Advisory Council. Our partners include members of the International Bar Association and the Inter-Pacific Bar Association.

We have a strong corporate responsibility programme and support a number of different charities and non-for-profit organisations, the most significant of which is Youthline.

We do a large amount of pro bono work for many organisations throughout the country including: Auckland Division of the Cancer Society, Child Cancer Foundation Inc, GoodBooks, New Zealand Coastguard, Preventing Violence in the Home and Wellington Community Law Centre.
