About You

You’ve been toiling away at university, buried in legal texts and listening to countless lectures. Now it’s time to put all that theory into practice.

For many, our summer clerk programme has been the point of departure for a lifelong career in our law firm. This is where you will get a real taste of what Simpson Grierson is like as a place to work and especially, what opportunities we will provide for you to fulfil your career ambitions.

We understand how important your career is to you, so we make sure that you receive all the training you need before we put you on the job. From your first day with us you are involved in real work, not relegated to menial and meaningless tasks. You could find yourself working in one of our teams alongside some of the most respected lawyers in New Zealand on high-profile cases and deals.

As a summer clerk you will rotate through two teams, with an assigned 'buddy' in each team.

Check out more comments from our recent summer clerks about working at Simpson Grierson.

Summer clerking is a great experience. You arrive on the first day to be met with a bunch of others in exactly the same situation and these people become some of your best friends and team-mates through a fun and intensive summer. Summer clerking is not just about the work, or the opportunity to get exposure to some of the best practical, hands-on experience. Rather, it's also about the chance to be exposed to the professional office working environment and, in particular, the culture of the firm.
Andrew Matthews, Summer Clerk 2004/05, Law Graduate 2006, Associate

It is the best summer you could hope for. Expect to work hard, learn a lot, have a whole bunch of laughs, and make a great group of friends. If you are swaying about whether or not a large multi-service firm is for you then give it a try. You can't lose anything from the experience!
